Devoted and passionate to assist you on how to better care for yourself through whole food nutrition and other modalities, depending on what is best for each individual’s unique constitution.

Carola Schleuss looked into self-care in 1982 because she suffered from depression and low self-esteem, thankfully she found a really good psychologist. Even though she was feeling better spiritually she was still struggling with physical health issues; fatigue, PMS, seasonal allergies, asthma, anxiety, moodiness, body pain, digestive issues which consisted of bloating, gas and irritable bowel that had persisted since childhood. In 1990 she met her husband Walter who had had studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and encouraged her to see a Chinese Doctor to take a nutrition program. 1993 was the beginning of a six-year journey into understanding how to take care of her health through food, herbal remedies, exercise and bodywork modalities.

Carola studied natural health in Santa Cruz California for six years, completing a 750 hours of Holistic Nutrition program certifying her as a Nutritional Educator/Consultant through the Bauman College of Holistic Nutrition, an accredited program. She studied with herbalist and acupuncturist Christopher Hobbs at the American School of Herbalism. Carola trained in massage at the Twin Lake College of Healing Arts an accredited school certifying her in Swedish, deep tissue massage, table shiatsu and acupressure. Carola also took a course through the Upledger Institute in San Francisco for Craniosacral. In 2001 she moved to Canada and while in Vancouver BC, she took level one Reiki and became certified in Foot Reflexology. In 2003 Carola moved to Victoria BC where is studied Rosemary Gladstar’s herbal program and received her level 2 Reiki. Carola deeply appreciates the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and studied the Foundation of TCM at Pacific Rim College in Victoria BC.

In 2002, Carola and Walter moved to Victoria, BC, Canada and in 2003 they founded and opened Simple Remedies Herbal Solutions, a western/eastern herbal dispensary and clinic. During her six years as owner/practitioner Carola focused on educating people about their wellness and the wellness of their animal friends, through whole food nutrition, herbal remedies and bodywork therapies. In 2009, Carola and Walter sold Simple Remedies, but Carola continued to practice in the clinic until 2012 when she and her husband moved to Nelson, BC, Canada.

Carola founded Way of Life Matters in 2009, she continues to devote her time and passion assisting others on how to better care for themselves through whole food nutrition and other modalities. During her time at Simple Remedies she could clearly see that most people were challenged with too much stress and not understanding the signs and symptoms and how it affects their body and emotions. While in Nelson Carola taught classes for people on digestive health at Selkirk College and held classes on feeding whole foods, massage and Reiki at her home and at pet stores for animal friends.

In 2024 Carola moved to Elizabethton, Tennessee where she continues to assist through providing sessions and classes for people and their animals friends.

Carola has always loved animals and grew up with cats, dogs and horses. She did her final nutrition research paper for dogs and cats on enzymes and the immune system which is why she feeds her animal friends mainly raw and some cooked foods. She also was a contributor writing for animals in the Herbal Collective Magazine in Canada from 2004 to 2016. The Perry County News in Indiana 2023.

Because Carola has learned many modalities and has over 25 years of experience, she can be integrative during each session helping you with physical, emotional and nutritional issues.
